MSAPBT CLUB: Our History

The Mississippi State American Pit Bull Terrier Club is officially associated with

the United Kennel Club,

the National American Pit Bull Terrier Association,

the United National Weight Pullers Association,

and the Mississippi Canine Coalition, Inc.

The concept of starting a UKC club in the Southwest Mississippi area was conceived by Ricki Armitage in the year 2000. After holding three fun matches to raise funds for the club, application was made to The United Kennel Club for approval to host conformation shows. On March 25, 2002, the club was approved and licensed by the United Kennel Club. Our first sanctioned conformation shows were held in McComb, Mississippi on Oct. 12-13, 2002. Judges were Mr. Dan Crutchfield, Ms. Billy Jeane McDonald, and Ms. Sandra Drake. The MSAPBTC was honored to host the 2003 National American Pit Bull Terrier Association's Annual National Show.

The club now hosts events three weekends per year, consisting of four conformation shows and two weight pull competitions. We are in the process of developing our show site at Crickhollow Farm, which will provide RV hookups, camping cabins, public restrooms and showers. We have a covered weight pull area and hope to provide two covered conformation rings in the near future as well as covered crating areas.
